October 31, 2007A quick and dirty quiz post
Because I was bored and am now tired from Halloween. And because I'm pretty pleased with myself. Forgive me.

October 30, 2007I am come home.
I'll get into details about the honeymoon once I settle in and get my shit together, but I just wanted to announce my return.
It was great, weather was great, wedding was perfect and I got dropped into the sea during parasailing... which was awesome! Pirate deck party? Check. Flying Dutchman (the one used in the movie)? Check. Pics will be up soon. Hitting every ride in Universal and all the Disney parks? Check. Special halloween events at both? Hell yes. And the Nightmare on Elmstreet themed haunted house walkthrough at Univesal was fan-fucking-tastic! Now, what's this "work" that I'm supposed to be getting back to?

October 11, 2007Buh-bye
Ok, I mean it this time. It's been swell, but the swelling's gone down. I'm really outta here until the very end of this month. Sorry to leave you. I know that Buzznet is going to be a lot more boring until I return. Just try to hang in there.

October 10, 2007Heroes S3E03 re-CAP
Just to get it out there, I'm really disappointed in how Heroes is going this season. It's dragging a bit, it feels somewhat forced and halting and some of the characters seem like they should be done. They don't need to be shown until they die. Like the Jessica/Niki thing. I get that Niki has super strength and Jessica can jump from body to body. But you've danced around showing us that for over a season now. Let it go. You missed it.
And then there's the crying Madonna. ![]() Don't get me wrong. I like the show. I'm interested. But it's time that they realize that they have a world with a style and a pattern of powers established. You can't fuck with that after a season of exposition. The amnesia thing is a little soap opera but it's necessary. The writers know that with Peter and Sylar they've made uber-characters that are too powerful to function, so they find (sometimes) hokey ways of taking some power back later. The real weakness in the world building is the comic. All the comic is doing recently is establishing people's catch phrases a bit early (Robots and Aliens) or ruining the timing of a dramatic reveal (that illusion girl was a stereotypical greasy, fat and pimply goth chick). Going back a bit father we find the Gittleman fiasco. Bring in a major character with an odd power. Then tie her into the series on TV. then give her a huge sub-plot in the comic. Then kill her off. Wow, that was a lot based around her. And do you know what made it into the show? She shows up in one episode and then is never seen or referenced again. Huge failing. The comic was going to be a way to introduce characters, judge viewer response and then possibly bring them onto the show. But now there's Heroes: Origins. So drop the shitty comic! The writing is bad, the tie-in is weak to non-existent and I think the only reason it's around is that they signed a multi-season deal with Nissan. What did I love about this episode? Other than the actual actors, I kinda like the Peter story. And the fact that I don't want to sleep with him means that I don't hate his Irish girlfriend. It's about time he got a little happiness, after the whole exploding and all. Before I go into the caps I just want to steak out some theory: Mohinder. I think he is immune to all disease. His sister was a mutant and we've never seen a situation with one sibling with a power and one without. He was born to help her and his blood has anti-bodies to a disease that wouldn't affect him at all unless he has the gene mutation. So it's pretty much stated he has a power. And I think that's it. Maybe it'll revealed when he meets the twins, she goes all weepy and he's fine. Shocker! And now for me episode re-CAP! If this is popular I might make it a regular thing. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Painfully obvious movie reference 1. Ha! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Painfully obvious movie reference 2. Haha! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Ok, that one is totally my reference. But I've been thinking it since episode one this season. ![]() Related Groups:

October 9, 2007I take my leave. But first, a survey!
So this is it for me until the end of October at the earliest. Why? Well, it's because I need to take 3 weeks to change my status. Right now it says engaged. That'll change when I get back. So I'll be gone from the 12th-28th.
P.S. On the 15th we have a hot air balloon ride! That's been one of my life goals so sweet! It's not in this balloon, but it should still be cool. That does not leave me a lot of time to put together a Halloween costume when I get back, but it's a simple one so I should be ok. This year I am going as Van Gogh and Allison is going to be a the green fairy of absinthe. Last year we went as Cornelius and Leeloo (I can't pull of Corbin. I'm not daft). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Going back in time a bit more I was Jesus (see profile shot. I carried that to all of my college classes). But the real fun is in group costumes. Another college costume was Empire Records. I went as Lucas and... everyone else crapped out on me. It was still a great costume. No pics, sorry. Next Halloween a bunch of my friends and I are going as Marvel characters again. The girl in the above pic will be Dark Phoenix and her boy will be an updated (thank god) Cyclops (why?). Al will be Mystique and I am going as Gambit (probably from Ultimate X-Men. No pansy pink chest plate!). Some time later we will probably go as DC. If that's the case I'm guessing I'd be Joker and Al would be Catwoman (the purple one). Question! What great group costumes can you think of? I'll start you off with ones I've done and want to do. You guys take it from there. Oh, and who you'd want to be in that group

October 8, 2007Halloween's A'comin!
And in honor of that I figured I'd post a few links that were sent to me recently. Here are two (supposedly) spooky albums just in time for your halloween party (ok, maybe a bit early)! And for those who are interested, these are free and legal. Download with immunity.
![]() ![]() So here's what I want from you people: Tell me what you think the scarriest halloween music is. Not songs about or for halloween, but songs that will scare the piss out of you or just plain freak you out when you're alone. Scary all the time, perfect to bust out on the 31st.

October 5, 2007Neil Gaiman Wants Terry Gilliam to Direct Sandman“Neil Gaiman Wants Terry Gilliam to Direct Sandman”I know it won't ever happen. Gilliam is busy. Gilliam hasn't actually been approached. Gilliam has a real life curse on his head when it comes to making movies. But I still want this so bad that I can kinda taste it. It tastes like dwarfs. Sure, I have no faith in Gilliam, but I love him. He's funny, dark, knows his way around visuals and is batshit to the core. The man seems to have an imagination that rivals what I think of babies. He's gloriously wrong and that makes him gloriously right! Sandman? Dear lord, it'd be amazing. I can't imagine anyone else being able to do it. The scope, the abstract visuals, the shifting basis for reality? I know Gilliam would do it all perfectly. If it ever got finished. Hell, I remember when he was quoted about Watchmen and said OK if he could make it 4 and a half hours. I cried a little when the studio said no. Then again, he never expected them to say yes. In the end Gilliam seems to be made of the same dreamlike qualities that his movies are. He's the perfect idea. The Gilliam Concept! It's wonderful, fantastic and has layers upon layers upon midgets. But he's always a dream. Look up quixotic in the dictionary and you'll see him. Well, his monster from Holy Grail. And it's not for lack of trying. But I think the only term that will ever be 100% when describing a Gilliam project will be "wants".

October 4, 2007Craig Says He’ll Stay in Senate Despite Ruling
This should make panasonicyouth unhappy.
Craig Says He’ll Stay in Senate Despite Ruling And I say I'll shove my foot up his ass! What the hell kind of response is that? "No, really, it's ok. I don't mind finishing my term even though I'm being brought up on charges." (NOTE: not an actual quote) That's not being polite. That's not multi-tasking. That's stating that you think breaking the law should have no effect on your job as a senator for the American government. So what the fuck do you think should effect that? Getting a blow job from an intern deserves impeachement but soliciting a cop for sex in a public restroom is peachy keen? Leave the senate and go fail at life somewhere else. And get your assout of office!

Sen. Larry Craig is stuck as guilty
This should make panasonicyouth happy.
New York Times says Sen. Larry Craig can't withdraw guilty plea. Always good to cite your sources. Seriously, douche, you pled it. What are you bitching about? But yeah, you got caught soliciting sex and staring at the officer in the stall of two full minutes. Just own up to it. And still denying that your gay? Or at least attracted to men? That's fucking stupid. REally, there's denial and then psychosis. I swear, republicans are the most sexually repressed people since the puritans. The only good ting about it is that they are some of the craziest people in bed (not best, craziest). Of course, is it really worth sacrificing our young Washington interns just for the chance for some party time between the sheets? Or between the urinals... All in all this is a relief. If he had been allowed to withdraw his plea then it would have just been an annoying, drawn out joke a trial. Now we have instant headlines/punchlines. Ok, now are we back to Brit and her babies or has someone else stepped into the spotlight? ![]()

My honeymoon prep.
Soon I shall be leaving you folks until late October. In just over a week I shall be married off (Sorry ladies. And some guys). My honeymoon is all set and it looks like it's going to rock. Here's the basics:
The big one, though, is at Universal. It's Halloween Horror Nights which is carnival themed this year. I tend to have this thing where I don't get scared of things. I never watched horror movies until Al came along (she loves them) because if you don't jump then they tend to be pretty boring. The ones that have gimmicks, well, I usually describe them as "cute". I hear that this is one of the best haunted themed... anythings in the country. Maybe this will make me fear! They have some shows (a Bill and Ted show! Excellent!) and 8 themed haunted houses! 3 of those are random (a clown one, a family holiday one and vampire rave...). Then there are the movie themed ones:
So with that exposition I am asking all of you out there to tell me what movies you thing are actually scary and terrifying. If you want you can name suspenseful ones as well but I want scream inducing, nightmare feeding fear producing films. Give me something that'll make even me at least a little jumpy.

October 3, 2007Hit her babies one more time!
Oh, c'mon. You didn't think that the news would turn over on the Brit's Babies story that fast, did you? No! There's more!
New custody hearing for Britney So we're back to watching her. I know, it's a bit ironic that I'm participating in the "Is our media's priorities mixed up?" forum while hawking this story. But if there's one thing people love more than news it's watching a human car wreck. The story actually brings up some interesting points:
Now, we just have to wait for Federline to get caught being just as boneheaded. Honestly, you think he's going to be a better parent? No. But no one's been paying attention to him so far. When he gets the spotlight he'll just start getting caught. What do I think the first blunder of his parenthood will be? Well, they both had shared custody of the carpet-bugs until now but there was never a reason for the custody change listed in the court sessions. So I want to see how he handles that. It's either

October 1, 2007This season in Television
So this season of TV actually has some promise. It's got some old favourites coming back and a surprising new batch of possible regulars for my schedule. So I'm going to tell you all about what I'm watching.
Monday 8pm How I Met Your Mother If you're not already watching this show then you're missing out. It's amazing. Legendary, even. It's honestly one of the funniest sit-coms since Scrubs and I don't usually follow sitcoms except reruns when they happen to be on. This is the third season. 1 and 2 are out on DVD. Netflix them and jump on board. Ted is a bit whiney for season 1 but everyone else more than makes up for it. Barney (Niel Patrick Harris) is at his finest. You're all watching this already. I know because I can see into your houses. I pulled the first episode off of Amazon Unboxed (terrible service. don't do it unless you're prepared to FairUse4WM everything). It was ok. I liked the filming style much more than the plot but I'm willing to give it a chance. Other than the conspiracy/story arch with his dead ex-fiancee from the future it seemed like a Quantum Leap rip-off. Here's hoping it finds better footing in the writing. Tuesday 9pm Scrubs Last season. It went from Ally McDoctor to something far more surreal with a lot more heart. How often can a sitcom manage heart without being sappy pap? Once every 6 years or so with HIMYM picking up the torch. How's it going to end? Probably with everyone slapping JD for being an ass. Elliot is an (engaged) emotional mess and you've got a baby coming. Don't make out with her. 9pm ReaperActually, the premier was a lot more entertaining than I thought it would be. It has Smith's penchant for word play without his penchant for poop play. The devil is good, but not as good as John Glover in Brimstone. It's fun. I'll take it for a ride this season 9pm EurekaIt's fun. I like the sheriff. The plots are fun sci-fi with enough geek characters to talk Star Trek style for a bit. The daughter is suprisingly not obnoxious. The High School satire is surprisingly effective when they bring it in. Sure it's a little too cute sometimes. And how it manages to be cute while dealing with dimensional-autistic interface as well as having a regular shuffled back and forth from being tortured by GD staff to being tortured by the Department of Defence is a little baffling. But it's casual torture, I guess. Wednesday 8pm Pushing Daisies This is my big investment this season. I have declared my undying love for this show since I first watched the premier in early August. The visual style is fantastic. The cast has chemistry. The dialogue almost sounds like poetry. It's expressionist television (closer to the French Amile than anything German). Also, I'm a sucker for death comedies. Seriously though. This is from Bryan Fuller. Creator of Dead Like Me. Writer for a good portion of Heroes. He's the heavy hitter that most people don't know is there. Good episode of Star Trek Voyager? Check the credits, it might be him. Like Wonderfalls? Him. Seen the Amazing Screw On Head? Then you're one of 5 people, but it's still him! 9pm Bionic WomanThe premier was ok. Not great. I'll give it a shot for a few episodes. If it takes a good turn and deals more into the character development that it needs rather than straight into the other bionic woman than it might have some staying power. We'll see. Thursday 8pm Smallville Guilty pleasure time! Do I find it painful that they're still sticking to the "no flying rule" like dogma? Yes! Supergirl can fly. His clone can fly. His body, when possessed by red kryptonite, can fly. But Clark? No flying. Get him off the fucking ground already. Supergirl? Not that cute little bouncy cousin I'm expecting from... every visual interpretation ever. With the robes and sharp cheekbones she's more like a young, blonde Wonder Woman. But it's the very fact that I was driven to write about this show with exlimation and question marks that means I'm hooked. So I'll just mark it down to guilty pleasure and try to enjoy it. P.S. IMDB, please take Pete Ross off the short lit of cast members. It's been 3 years. I don't think he's coming back. If anyone out there thinks I'm missing something grand, please let me know. I time shift everything so the actual schedule matters not to me. Hence my 9pm fest on Tuesdays. EDIT - Avoid Cavemen. Watching it is like when you go to a friend's house and thier parents are having a fight but trying to be civil/passive aggressive. It just feels really awkward. You want to say "Please. Stop trying. It's ok." But you can't. Because they can't hear you through the TV.
